Our 100 Year History
Our 100 Year History
In the Fall of 1919, with much prayer, a small group of faith filled Jesus followers dreamed of establishing a church in the little ferry town of Kirkland, WA. On Sunday October 26, 1919, that dream became a reality as 10 members answered the call and Rose Hill Church of the Nazarene was founded. It first met in a little church building they built on Rose Hill. They focused on preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus and sharing that real transformation can happen as we surrender our lives to Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. As the church grew, they needed to expand, so in the late 1940’s they, by faith, bought the piece of property on the south side of downtown where we currently are. The new church building was completed, and the first service was held on June 6, 1954, and they became known as Kirkland Church of the Nazarene.
In the Fall of 1919, with much prayer, a small group of faith filled Jesus followers dreamed of establishing a church in the little town of Kirkland, a town which served as a ferry terminal on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. On Sunday October 26, 1919, that dream became a reality as 10 members answered the call and Rose Hill Church of the Nazarene was founded. It first met in the Rose Hill Club House. They focused on preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus and sharing that real transformation can happen as we surrender our lives to Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. The small church quickly outgrew the clubhouse, and they bought their own property and built a small church on Rose Hill less than a year after they started. In the mid-1940's there again was a need to expand as the little church building on Rose Hill was filled to the brim with people. The property where we stand today was bought by faith and work begun in June of 1953 on the new church building. The first service was held 1 year later on June 6, 1954, and they became known as Kirkland Church of the Nazarene. The educational wing was added in the 1960's and more remodeling in the 1980's to increase the foyer and bring the two buildings together.
Our Story Today
In April of 2010, we changed our name to Life Community Church to better reflect our mission, vision, and connection with the community of Kirkland. We are not a building or a name, but a growing community of people seeking to discover and know God in a real way and who want to make a difference in the world. We believe that church should be a place where anyone, regardless of background or beliefs, can come investigate and experience who God is. We celebrate our diversity and our unity in Christ. Because God is our Father, we are family, and we see all people as brothers and sisters.
